Websites for printing presses

Printing is the one trade where a unit price means nothing without the quantity, because most of the cost is setup. A press quoting one flat per-piece rate is either overcharging the small job or losing money on it.

What usually goes wrong online in this trade

01

Customers expect linear pricing

A thousand cards is not ten times a hundred, it is closer to three times. Without a slab table the customer thinks the small job is being gouged and the big job discounted arbitrarily.

02

Nobody explains digital versus offset

Below a break-even quantity digital is cheaper; above it offset is. Presses know the crossover precisely and almost never publish it, so the customer cannot make the cheaper choice.

03

Colour disputes end in reprints

A screen emits light in RGB and paper reflects it in CMYK. Some screen colours cannot be printed at all. Unstated, this becomes a reprint at somebody's cost every month.

04

Artwork arrives unprintable

No bleed, RGB, 72 dpi, live fonts. Each of these costs a day, and the deadline the customer is holding you to was set before any of it was checked.

How we build it

What the theme does about it

Not a feature list — each of these exists because of a specific problem above.

  • Quantity slab tables with the per-piece rate visible at every slab

  • The digital-to-offset break-even quantity named per job, so a customer can order fewer or wait and order more

  • One item deliberately with no slab table — large format, no plate to amortise — which proves the pricing logic is real

  • A plain statement that CMYK will not match a screen, with a physical proof offered as the remedy

  • The full pre-press checklist as page content: bleed, safe area, colour mode, resolution, font handling

  • Die charges disclosed as one time and not re-billed on repeats

  • Turnaround dated from artwork approval, not from order placement

  • Unprompted spec corrections, such as pointing a chilled-product customer to BOPP rather than chromo

The theme for this

Complete working storefronts. Open one and use it — the filters, the cart and the product pages are all real.

Questions owners ask us

Won't publishing slab rates let competitors undercut me?

They already undercut on the headline and recover on finishing. Publishing the slabs makes your pricing legible and moves the comparison to service and quality, where a real press wins.

Can you add an instant quotation calculator?

We would advise against it as a first move. A calculator that cannot see the artwork will misquote finishing and set an expectation you then have to walk back. The slab tables answer the common cases without that risk.

Should customers be able to upload artwork on the site?

Print files are large and need human checking, and a silently failed upload loses the job. The theme routes enquiries to WhatsApp with the file attached, which is what customers already do.

My paper rates change constantly.

Review the slab tables on the same cycle as your paper purchasing. They are content, not code, so a rate revision is a short editing job rather than a rebuild.
