Virundhu

A catering site that defines what a plate actually contains, publishes the minimum plate count, and states how a headcount is billed — the three numbers every catering dispute is about.

Design decisions

Each of these came out of researching how this trade actually sells, not from a style preference.

  • 01

Defines what a plate contains — item count, every item named, and whether servings are unlimited or a single pass. This is the number three competing quotes differ on and none of them state.

  • 02

Publishes the minimum plate count on every package, instead of quoting a rate and withdrawing it once the customer says how many guests are coming.

  • 03

States headcount billing in both directions: under-attendance bills the confirmed count, over-attendance bills the actual. Naming the unflattering direction is what makes the term credible.

  • 04

Gives the headcount confirmation deadline and the reason for it — purchasing — so the deadline reads as logistics rather than as a sales tactic.

  • 05

One package is badged 'SINGLE PASS — no refills, unlike our buffets', which distinguishes it from the caterer's own higher-margin options rather than blurring the difference.

  • 06

Non-veg handling is a spec row: separate prep area, separate vessels, separate serving staff, counters set apart. For a great many Indian families this is the deciding question.

  • 07

Live-counter throughput is published in plates per hour, which explains why the tiffin service window is shorter and heads off the commonest complaint about live counters.

  • 08

Refuses to hand over leftover food and explains the food safety reason, taking a position that costs goodwill in the short term and earns trust.

  • 09

Shares the menu archetype with the Sappadu restaurant theme but inverts it: light ivory against Sappadu's near-black, Cormorant against Prata, spaced tiles at 1.1 density against dense rows at 0.9. Same structure, unmistakably different site.

How it’s built

The specifics matter because they determine what the site costs to run, how fast it is, and whether you can move it later.

Stack
Next.js 16 App Router, React 19, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS v4
Rendering
Fully static export — every route is prerendered HTML, independently crawlable
JavaScript
No animation or UI library. Design tokens applied as scoped CSS custom properties
Accessibility
Semantic landmarks, labelled controls, visible focus, prefers-reduced-motion honoured
Hosting
Deploys to any static host including cPanel shared hosting — no Node runtime required

Suited to

  • Wedding and event caterers
  • Cloud kitchens running corporate bulk orders
  • Tiffin and breakfast counter operators
  • Any caterer losing bookings to a cheaper quote with a thinner plate

What it doesn’t include

Stated up front rather than discovered later.

  • Rates, item counts, minimums, staff ratios and throughput figures are sample data and must be replaced with your own operating numbers.
  • FSSAI licence numbers are specific to a business. Never publish another operator's number.
  • No date-availability calendar. Catering availability depends on kitchen capacity and overlapping events, which a static calendar will misrepresent — enquiries route to WhatsApp instead.
  • No online payment or advance collection. Catering advances are negotiated per event and are better handled after a conversation.
  • Headcount billing terms here are typical for South Indian catering and should be checked against your own contract before launch.
  • Photography of your own service setups, counters and leaf spreads is the single biggest visual upgrade available to this theme and is not included.
  • Built on RootPro's theme engine: 5 routes, with this theme's own palette, typefaces, card anatomy and layout variants.
